Company History

KAL-TV (Channel 11 in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area) printed and distributed baseball cards during the 1956 and 1957 seasons.

Television was a relatively new medium, but station owner Calvin Walker was an experienced marketer, and he held the contract to broadcast Pittsburgh Pirates games on KAL.

Knowing this, Walker used his branded baseball cards to encourage kids to petition moms and dads to purchase a television… if they didn’t have one already, or watch more baseball games… if they did.

Card printing was handled by the Laver-Schuster Printing Company in neighboring Dormont, Pennsylvania. Card production shown pictured in April, 1956

Walker would go on to own several successful ice cream shops in the Pittsburgh area.
